Paris, France) – Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet announced that she will play her final tournament next month at Roland Garros. The 34-year-old tennis player confirmed her imminent retirement in an interview that was broadcast on Saturday on the French television channel Canal+.

Cornet made his debut on the circuit with an invitation to Roland Garros in 2005, when he was just 15 years old. Over the course of her 19-year career, the Nice native won six WTA titles, reached the final in Rome at just 18 in 2008, and reached 11th place in the rankings in 2009, her highest ranking.

During her career, the Frenchwoman has reached at least the round of 16 in every Grand Slam, with her best result in one of the circuit’s four main tournaments coming just two years ago, in a thrilling run to her first quarterfinal at the Australian Open.

The Frenchwoman holds the Open Era record for consecutive appearances in the main draw of four Grand Slams. Her streak began in 2007 and remains unbroken, with 68 straight tournaments for Cornet since then.

There were 25 victories for the experienced tennis player over the top 10, including four over ranking leaders. She defeated then-No. 1 Serena Williams three times in a single season in 2014. Most recently, Cornet ended Iga Swiatek’s 37-match winning streak in 2022, defeating the Pole in straight sets on grass at Wimbledon.
