Mosquera (Colombia) – After having won their first three games this week, Carolina Meligeni Alves bowed out in the semifinals of the ITF W35 de Mosquera, on clay courts in Colombia. The current number 3 in Brazil and 346th in the world was surpassed this Friday by Argentine Jazmin Ortenzi, 647th, with splits of 6/2, 2/6 and 6/3 in 1h57 of departure.
“The opponent played at a high level, which on the one hand was good, because it made me improve in the second set to get it. And at the beginning of the third set, I missed some balls that were crucial”, evaluated Carol Meligeni after the match.
“After 2/0 she started to play more loosely again and the set went away very quickly. Even so, my attitude was good, I continued competing and almost came back. It was a good week, it’s a shame I didn’t make the final, but I played well and I’ve been keeping a good pace”, added the 28-year-old from São Paulo.
Carol has 14 points in the ranking for the campaign
For the campaign, Carol Meligeni receives 14 points in the WTA. The Campinas native was trying to reach its second final of the season, with a title in São João da Boa Vista. Her best career ranking is 165th place, achieved in September 2022. The Colombian tournament gives 35 points to the champion and 23 to the runner-up.

Ortenzi used the protected ranking to enter the bracket and was ranked 406th in October 2022. It was her third game against Carol and the Brazilian leads the record 2-1. This year, they faced each other twice, with one victory each side. The 22-year-old Argentine faces Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo in the final of the tournament.
