UFC champion, Alex Poatan donates a large amount to victims of tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul; find out how to help

Amidst the national commotion over the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.) UFC, Alex Poatan, helped. Moved by the pain of the victims and the urgency to help those in need, the fighter donated a large amount of his own resources to help rebuild the state.

“I recently made a donation of US$100,000 (about R$507,000) to people who need food. And now, I’m going to donate another US$20,000 (around R$101,000) to the South and to this tragedy that happened there”, revealed Poatan in an interview with ‘MMA Hoje’.

The champion’s gesture is not just limited to the substantial amount donated. Poatan also positions himself as a spokesperson for hope, encouraging the public to join the cause and contribute according to their means.

“Many people sometimes don’t donate out of fear. But just make a donation. I said I didn’t know I was going there, but you did your part. It’s your part that God is watching”, he concluded.

The heavy rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since the end of April have already caused the deaths of 90 people, with 131 still missing and more than 48,000 homeless. The data was released at 9:30 am this Tuesday (7) by the State Civil Defense.

Floods and landslides affected several municipalities, especially Santa Cruz do Sul, which had the highest number of victims. In Porto Alegre, nature’s fury manifested itself in more than 1,200 recorded lightning strikes.
