Striker Wesley found the net again for Internacional in the 2-1 victory over Delfín, this Thursday (25/4), in Ecuador, in the third round of Group C of the Copa Sudamericana. With this feat, the winger reached four goals with the Colorado shirt and equaled the mark achieved by Cruzeiro.
Contested by the fans during his time at Cruzeiro, Wesley scored four goals for Internacional in just 11 matches played – an average of 0.36.
For Cruzeiro, the striker’s four goals are distributed across 42 matches in the 2023 season – an average of 0.1. He also recorded two assists for Raposa.
In a good moment in Porto Alegre, Wesley needs two more goals to reach the highest scoring season of his career – from 2019 to 2021, for Palmeiras and Vitória, he found the net five times each year.
Wesley for Internacional and Cruzeiro
Wesley debuted for Internacional on February 25 of this year, in a classic against Grêmio, for Gauchão. In other words, in two months, the 25-year-old player reached the same mark as his one-year stint at Toca da Raposa.
At Internacional, Wesley was selected as a starter by coach Eduardo Coudet in five of the 11 matches he played. He has accumulated 517 minutes on the field.
With the celestial shirt, Wesley started 32 of the 42 games. There were 2614 minutes on the field.
Wesley at Cruzeiro
Cruzeiro made Wesley’s contract official on December 27, 2022. At the time, the celestial club agreed to pay 3 million euros (around R$16.5 million at the time) to Palmeiras for 50% of the economic rights.
Wesley arrived at Cruzeiro with a contract until the end of 2026 and under high expectations after doing well at Verdão. The excitement, however, gave way to frustration.
The striker never managed to wear the Celestial shirt and received a lot of criticism from fans for poor performances and missed goals.
Cruzeiro then decided to negotiate him. On February 16, 2024, Internacional made official the purchase of 50% of the striker’s economic rights for undisclosed amounts.
