Seville (Spain) – The International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed this Thursday a change in the format of the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup, which will be played between the 12th and 20th of November, in Seville, Spain. The competition between 12 countries will no longer have a group stage and will be exclusively eliminatory until the champions are defined.

The change means that the four seeded countries will enter directly into the quarter-finals, starting on November 15th. The other eight teams compete in a first knockout phase, distributed between the 12th, 13th and 14th of November. According to the official announcement, the change in regulations met requests from players, team captains and TV stations.

The quarterfinal duels will be on November 15th, 16th and 17th, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The semi-finals are scheduled for the 18th and 19th. The final will take place on November 20th, a Wednesday.

Canada (current champion), Italy (runner-up in 2023), Spain (host country), Czech Republic (guest) and eight other countries that won the World Qualifier clashes are classified for the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup. : Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the United States.

Coincidence of dates with the Davis Cup

With the change of format in the women’s competition, there will be a coincidence of dates with some clashes in the decisive phase of the Davis Cup, which takes place between November 19th and 24th in Málaga, also in Spain. The Davis quarterfinal clashes will be on November 19th, 20th and 21st. The semi-finals will be on Friday, the 22nd and Saturday, the 23rd, with the final scheduled for Sunday, November 24th, officially ending the professional circuit season.
