McLaren could be on the verge of concluding a major sponsorship deal with payments giant Mastercard. The news comes shortly after the announcement of HP as Ferrari’s main sponsor.
Following in the footsteps of Visa with Cash App, which started to sponsor RB (formerly AlphaTauri), Mastercard demonstrates the growing interest of financial companies in Formula 1. McLaren appears as the favorite for sponsorship, and could even change its name to ‘McLaren Mastercard’.
However, the team of Zak Brown and Andreas Seidl faces stiff competition. Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari are also in the fight to close a deal with Mastercard. The Italian team has already previously discussed a master sponsorship with the North American company, but at the moment McLaren is leading the dispute.
It is possible that confirmation of this partnership will be announced before the Miami GP.
