The Balneário Camboriú Surfing Association (ASBC) is restructured and has new management, Hamilton Costa (president) and Jefferson Barbarini (vice).

The return of ASBC also marks the return of surf competition in Balneário Camboriú – with a first event this Sunday (28), the BC Surf Training, which will take place from 8 am, in Pontal Norte.

The new president of ASBC, Hamilton Costa, known as Tim, has been surfing for 40 years and was one of the founders of the association. Before he took over as director two weeks ago, the president was Pedro Norberto, one of Balneário’s surfing exponents. Other presidents who passed through ASBC were Didi Olegário (currently superintendent of the Municipal Sports Foundation), Thiago Velasques (current secretary of Tourism), Edson Amorim, Ed, José Ernesto Pereira Filho and Elder Leão, who was one of the main event organizers linked to surfing in Balneário Camboriú.

“The beginning of ASBC was an adventure and learning, of mistakes and many successes, today we are mature, we learned a lot from experiences, we started a family, we became responsible and acquired expertise in decisions… and we are going to manage excellence”, says Tim .

ASBC has, according to the new president, 36 years of work for the municipality, being one of the entities that brought the most titles to Balneário Camboriú. “Many things have been done, time has passed, we have lost hegemony within the state, now the work is to look forward and recover everything we have – doing what we know how to do.

At the time of ASBC’s ‘height’ we had 600 members, but the city has grown a lot, we hope to make up for lost time and have even more members. The association not only targets surfers, but also those who enjoy the sport. We want to insert everything within this social context”, he points out.

Tim anticipates that ASBC already has a schedule of events, but that the first step will be to restructure the social networks and restyle the entity’s logo, which will be created by the advertising agency George Varela.

New sponsors

The association also plans to attract sponsors, with a focus on the events to be held, and thus be able to work hard on the surfing base – as the city has always been known as a ‘surfing granary’, but without forgetting other categories, such as Adapted Surfing, which is gaining more and more prominence.

“Surfing today has another view within the family context – parents already want to take their child to practice the sport. Before there was a prejudice, and today there is a very different concept, which we see through idols like Filipe Toledo and Gabriel Medina, who were and are accompanied by their families since the beginning of their surfing careers, from Júnior to today in the celebration of a world title”, he says.

BC Surf Training

The first event on the ASBC calendar takes place this Sunday (28), starting at 8 am – BC Surf Training, which will have four categories in dispute: OPEN Men, OPEN Women, SUB 16 and a new category – Adapted Surf, unprecedented in competitions in the city.

Registration is being done in advance, with Ed Amorim (via WhatsApp – +61 490 406 005), and participation is free. There will also be registration on the spot if there are places left, so the tip is to arrive early.

There will be prizes, but the focus of the event is to be something festive to kick off surfing competitions in the city. BC Surf Treino will have two more stages in addition to the first that takes place this Sunday.

More events

In addition to the three stages of BC Surf Treino, ASBC already has two other events on its calendar, Surf Talentos, which will be on June 8th and 9th and September 27th, in partnership with FecaSurf and CBSurf the Brazilian Master .

“Our goal is to make the city remember everything we did, and for surfing to become part of the showcase that Balneário Camboriú is today – we want to explore this, as there is a lot of potential in our sport. To achieve this, we want to transform Balneário Camboriú into the surf city it has always been”, adds Tim.
