Queen Marta, voted the best player in the world on six occasions, stated that this is her last year wearing the national team’s shirt. The statement was made in an interview with CNN Esportes. At 38 years old, the Orlando Pride athlete expressed her desire to participate in the last Olympic Games of her career.

“If I go to the Olympics, I will enjoy every moment, because, regardless of whether I go to the Olympics or not, this is my last year with the National Team. There is no longer Marta in the National Team as an athlete from 2025 onwards,” he said. Marta, in an interview with CNN Esportes.

The player said she is calm with the decision, stating that it is time to stop and is optimistic about the future of the team and young athletes in Brazilian women’s football.

“This is my last year, and I can already confirm it here. There is a moment when we have to understand that the time has come. I am very calm about this, because I see with great optimism this development that we is having in relation to young athletes”, he reports.

According to Marta, the team currently has great players emerging and will be symbolically passing on the baton as the protagonist of Brazilian football.

— We have a very qualified team, with very talented girls and, over the years, you will see that it really is what I am talking about, it is a very fertile ground. For this reason, I feel very comfortable saying: ‘Look, I’m passing it on to you, I’m going to pass the baton, and you continue to carry on this legacy’ — adds the player.

Marta is an ambassador for UN Women. The role of the National Team number 10 is to work for gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world. In total, she participated in five Olympics and won two silver medals (2004 and 2008). She is a two-time Pan American Games champion (2003 and 2007) and three-times Copa América champion (2003, 2010 and 2018).
