The teams from Formula 1 chose to postpone voting on the introduction of a new scoring system for the category until later in the year, according to the Motorsport.com.

After a campaign by teams in the middle pack to extend the points zone from 10 to 12 drivers, the topic was put up for discussion at the F1 Commission meeting this Thursday (25), which was attended by the FOM, the FIA and of representatives from the 10 teams.

For the change valid for 2025 to be approved at this time of year, support from five of the ten teams on the grid was needed. The bottom teams were in favor of the change when questioned during the Chinese GP, with support from Christian Horner, from Red Bull, and Fred Vasseur, from Ferrari, as the news would not impact the top teams.

But now information has emerged that, at the F1 Commission meeting, it was agreed that more time is needed to analyze the implications of the change. With considerable time remaining before the adoption of the new system for 2025, it was agreed that there is no need to rush.

The proposal will be investigated further and placed on the agenda of the next Commission meeting. The idea was once again circulating among the paddock as a result of a more competitive midfield, with a clear division between the top five teams and those at the bottom.

Barring incidents or reliability issues, Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Aston Martin have already won most of the points contested in 2024, and this should continue throughout the year.

In the new proposal, the score would be maintained as it is until seventh place, giving five points to eighth, four to ninth and so on until 12th.
