America breaks revenue record in 2023, but ends year with deficit

América sent its advisors this Wednesday (24) the financial statement for the 2023 financial year evaluated by independent auditors. In the year in which it was relegated from Series A to Series B of the Brazilian Championship, the club recorded its historic revenue record. Despite this, the institution had a deficit of R$ 22,134,573.00.

After closing 2021 with revenues of R$46 million and reaching record revenues of R$144.1 million in 2022, América once again surpassed itself in this regard. In 2023, the club earned R$187,876,760.00. The increase was 30.34% compared to 2022.

The growth in revenue in 2023 was mainly due to increase in revenues with sponsorships, advertising and marketing and also to significant increase in revenue from the sale of athletes.

In terms of “sponsorship, advertising and marketing”, Coelho jumped from R$17,577,617.00 raised in 2022 to R$ 32,875,108.00in 2023. The increase was 87.02%.

Regarding the sale of athletes, América earned R$ 62,435,387.00 in 2023, against R$11,053,441.00 in revenue in 2022. The increase was 464.85%.

Still in relation to revenue, Coelho had a reduction in terms of “broadcasting and prize rights” compared to 2022, it earned R$102.2 million, a record number. In the 2023 financial year, revenue from this portfolio was R$72.9 million.

Football expenses have increased significantly

Despite its record revenue, América also saw an increase in its general expenses: it rose from R$ 150.5 million, in 2022, to R$ 196.7 millionin 2023.

Football expenses were the “big villains” of the year. O América spent R$92,070,307.00 on salaries, image rights and labor charges for the cast in 2023. In the 2022 season, spending on the same item was R$59,901,051.00.

Even with this substantial increase in spending on the squad, the club did not respond on the field and was relegated to Serie B with the worst campaign in national elite. The team was also runner-up in Minas Gerais and fell in the quarter-finals of the Cup of Brazil and South American.

In addition to spending on salaries, image rights and cast charges, América significantly increased its sports expenses. It was R$41,450,421.00, in 2022, for R$ 57,978,218.00, in 2023.

In relation to spending on other club employees, there was a reduction. After spending R$20,163,985.00 in 2022 on salaries, charges and benefits, América reduced this expense in 2023 to R$ 19,082,300.00.

Deficit in fiscal year 2023

According to the accounting report, América closed 2023 with a deficit of R$ 22,134,573. In the previous year, the deficit had been R$21,192,728.00.
