South African Mikey February launches YouTube channel and first video features classic right-wing in Mexico.

Some waves seem tailor-made for the surfer. We can say that, in the case of South African Mikey February, the Mexican right (apparently Baja de La Cruz) surfed by him in the video “ONZA!” fits perfectly. Filmed and edited by Kevin Jansen, the video shows Mikey surfing masterfully, performing fast turns. A surf and wave quality that encourage spectators to open their laptops and check the price of plane tickets to Mexico.
Recently, Mikey launched his own YouTube channel titled Spearhead Unlimited. The title “ONZA!” alludes to the elusive snow leopard in Spanish, suggesting a connection to the video’s description, which tells of local stories of the Onza, a large feline that prowls alone under the moon, leaving just enough tracks to fuel the legend.
Demonstrating his commitment to experimentation, Mikey tests two very different CI models on this perfect right hand: a modern swallowtail version of a Merrick Twin Fin and a custom leashless, 1970s-style single fin. Alternative boards will be introduced soon in Spearhead Unlimited.
In December 2018, Mikey February ended his participation as a full-time surfer on the WSL World Tour, being eliminated by his South African compatriot Jordy Smith, who took 13th place at the Billabong Pipe Masters. Could this be a blessing in disguise?
Since then, his journey outside of competition has been marked by significant expansion, both in terms of the boards he uses and the trips he takes. In partnership with Channel Islands Surfboards, Mikey and Britt Merrick have evolved the twin fin design to a point where Mikey has become synonymous with world-class surfing on twin fiberglass fins.
