Idol warns Cruzeiro players after ‘stumbling’ in the South American Championship

Cruzeiro’s idol, former midfielder Fabrício analyzed the team’s stance in the “stumble” against Unión La Calera, in Chile, for the Copa Sudamericana. According to the former player, the squad led by Fernando Seabra “needs to react”.

Through his social networks, Fabrício published a photo next to his dog, who was sleeping, and criticized Cruzeiro’s performance in Chilean territory.

In the publication, the former midfielder extolled Cruzeiro’s greatness, but called for rapid evolution of the team on the field.

“Wake up soon, react, you are wearing one of the biggest shirts in Latin America and a two-time Libertadores champion”, he concluded.

Cruzeiro needs a combination of results to be a leader

Still without winning in the South American Championship, the Cruzeiro no longer depends solely on him to advance directly to the round of 16 of the competition. With the draw against Unión La Calera, in Concepción, Chile, Cruzeiro reached three points and continued in third position in the bracket. The Chileans are in second place, with four points.

The aggravating factor for Cruzeiro was the Universidad Católica’s victory against Alianza, away from home. The result left the Ecuadorians isolated in the lead, with seven points, while the Colombians are at the bottom, with one point.

To be the leader of the group, in the scenario in which it will depend on fewer combinations of results, the team from Cruzeiro will have to win the three remaining games and “dry” Universidad Católica against Alianza or Unión La Calera, both in Ecuador.

The second-placed team in each South American group will compete in a round-trip playoff. On occasions, the teams will face the third placed teams in the Copa Libertadores groups.
