The reason for Raul Gustavo’s expulsion in the Corinthians game was unusual: an attack on the flag.
In the play in question, the defender was competing with the attacker Perello, on the side of the field. He ended up pushed by his opponent and collided with the advertising board.
Raul Gustavo got up and tried to argue with Perello, but the assistant interrupted the Corinthians defender’s act. With that, the player pushed the flag and left his arm in his face.
Chilean referee Piero Maza promptly ran towards those involved and presented a red card directly to the Timão defender. In the images, it was possible to see that the flag was pointing towards Raul Gustavo, denouncing the attitude.
WHAT’S NEXT?
After the South American match, Timão will play again on Sunday (28), against Fluminense, in the fourth round of the Brasileirão. The confrontation will be at the Neo Química Arena.
