President of Abrafut defends Raphael Claus and Daiane Muniz and says: ‘When you put the championship in doubt, it’s bad for everyone, especially when there’s no proof’

President of Abrafut, Marcelo Van Gasse gave an interview on the program “Seleção SporTV” to comment on the moment of arbitration Brazilian. – As an association, I went to the Public Ministry last year, at a public hearing of the Ministry of Goiás. It has been two years of investigation, no referee has appeared. I find it strange that the Senate uses the name of Raphael Claus, a super family guy, who represented Brazil in the last World Cup, and Daiane Muniz, who is pre-summoned for the Olympics. We have to think when we insinuate that we have a football product that we all live. When you put the championship in doubt, it’s bad for everyone, especially when there’s no proof. We are conjecturing situations, this is very bad. We created the association in search of the respect that the referee must have. When you get to the Senate and put yourself to the test, it’s bad for everyone. Claus and Daiane are high-level referees, globally recognized. I saw a situation with referee Glauber (Amaral Cunha), he was never on the national team or in our association, I can’t talk about him. Daiane is one of the best VARs in the world, respected, seeking to work at the highest level possible. We are willing to give respect to the referees, which is what they deserve – she stressed.

The president of Abrafut commented on how Brazilian arbitration can improve.

– The CBF is making a big investment in arbitration. I’m doing 25 years of refereeing, I went from under-15 to the World Cup. There is investment in training, pre-season, feedback regarding the game. We try to improve, but we cannot forget that the referee alone cannot control the field of play if players and the coaching staff do not behave well. The environment has to help. In Europe I only worry about the field, here I have to worry about everything. Look at the pressure that Claus will have with the game on Sunday. We need to have respect for the referee. Our association will look for it all the time, I think it’s very fair. It’s not easy to be a referee in South America, we have to control a lot of things, the press has to understand. We are always willing to improve football, which is linked to improving refereeing. May we have better football so that my son can enjoy watching Brazilian football – he stressed.

Marcelo Van Gasse also commented on the fact that Raphael Claus and Daiane Muniz played together in 11 games in the Brazilian Championship, while other pairs played together a maximum of three times.

– I can’t speak for the Arbitration Committee, but I can speak for my understanding of the game and experience. Claus plays the main games, is recognized as one of the main referees, and Daiane Muniz is recognized as one of the best VARs in the world. That’s why they work together, they’re in the biggest games, with the biggest audience. I don’t see a problem with that. In my experience, it is natural – he added.
