Sorocaba participates in the Regional Phase of the Open Youth Games in 12 modalities

Sorocaba will compete, starting this week, with teams from 12 sports in the Regional Phase of the 39th edition of the 2024 Open Youth Games, a competition organized by the Sports Secretariat of the State of São Paulo. Sorocaba will face, this Thursday (25), at 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm, at the Ginásio do Éden, at Rua Salvador Leite Marques, 1,275, the teams from Tietê, in Women’s and Men’s Handball, respectively. This Saturday (27th), starting at 9 am, Sorocaba will compete in Checkers, at the Xadrez Clube de Sorocaba, located at Rua Santa Clara, 106, in the Center.

The 39th edition of the championship, which brings together athletes aged up to 18 years, was created with the aim of generating opportunities for young people to develop their sporting potential and propagate the practice of different sports, including improving mental and physical health, valuing the concepts discipline and techniques of each modality.

The competition is organized in three stages: Subregional, Regional and State, which is the last stage, when the best teams in the State of São Paulo will face each other. In this Regional Phase, 29 cities in the region participate.

Sorocaba participates with teams in the following sports: Athletics (men and women), Basketball (men), Checkers (men and women), Futsal (men and women), Rhythmic Gymnastics B (women), Artistic Gymnastics (men – up to 16 and female – up to 14), Handball (male and female), Swimming (male and female), Judo (male and female), Tennis (male), Table Tennis (male and female) and Chess (male).

Sorocaba athletes will have more competitions in the Open Youth Games next week. On Monday (29), at 8pm, the Men’s Futsal team will play against Itapeva, at Arena Sorocaba, located on Rodovia Raposo Tavares, km 106, s/n, in Parque Reserva Fazenda Imperial. On Tuesday (30), at 7pm, the Men’s Basketball team will face Capão Bonito, at the EMEF Gym “Professora Zilda Tomé de Moraes”, located at Rua Sebastião Xavier Antunes, s/n, in the Cidade Jardim neighborhood, in Porto Feliz.
