Former Corinthians coach assesses the club’s mistake in dismissing a rival finalist duo

This Sunday, Santos coach and former Corinthians commander, Fábio Carille, spoke again about his former club’s decision to dismiss Giuliano and Gil. For him, the board made a mistake in its choice, although he highlights the difficulty of giving an opinion when he is not involved in the decision-making process.

“I think so (the board made a mistake), but it’s very difficult to say when you’re not participating in the process. Thinking quickly, I think that Corinthians didn’t imagine losing Veríssimo, they didn’t imagine losing another athlete there, and in a little while, participating of a reformulation, perhaps, taking away Gil’s space, I imagine that”, he began saying at a press conference.

“We had to chase Gustavo Henrique and others to support and have players for the season ahead. But it’s very difficult to say, but they are qualified players and you have to have a lot of wisdom when it comes to getting rid of quality players. “, he added.

Both Giuliano and Gil are now part of the Santos team, under the command of Carille, and have stood out as starters. Both players are in the final of the Campeonato Paulista, having beaten Palmeiras 1-0 in the first match of the decision, held this Sunday at Vila Belmiro.

Since his arrival at Vila Belmiro, Giuliano has participated in six games, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Meanwhile, Gil participated in 15 matches without registering goals or assists, but has been fundamental as one of the pillars of the Santos defense.

For Corinthians, the midfielder played from 2021 to 2023, accumulating 143 games, 12 goals and 15 assists. On the other hand, the defender, with two spells at the club (2013 to 2016 and 2019 to 2023), recorded 444 games, 19 goals and 12 assists, winning titles such as the Recopa and Paulista in 2013, in addition to the Brasileiro in 2015.
