Former player of the women’s volleyball team Paula Borgo died of stomach cancer. The athlete discovered the tumor in September last year, when she had to step away from the courts. Since then, she has been battling the disease. The news of the death was given by the mother of the opposite in her social network.

The tumor was diagnosed during the medical examinations carried out in Barueri’s pre-season, the team that the athlete would defend in the last Superliga. Paula Borgo was in Italy, where she played for Bergamo. Before that she had played for Kale and Nilufer, from Türkiye. In his last visit to Brazil, the opposite wore the shirt of Fluminense. She has also defended Brazil and reached the podium with coach Zé Roberto Guimarães’ team. In 2019, in Nanquin, she secured the silver medal with the Brazilian national team in the League of Nations.

Two days ago, Paula made the last post on her social networks. She paid tribute to her husband Carlos remembering their wedding anniversary. In the text, she wrote that she was not well enough to celebrate and thanked her partner for her unconditional support.

“Our 5th passed and I wasn’t well enough to talk. We spent the 5th in the hospital with you taking care of me and telling me how much you love me. I’ve seen reports of husbands who abandoned their wives when they got sick, Carlos was completely different, he only showed how much he loved me, showing that he really was the man God sent me.”
