World runner-up in 2022, the Brazilian Italo Ferreira will spend some time away from the sea. In a post on social media, the surfer posed with crutches and revealed that he played in the final of the WSL World Cup – won by Filipe Toledo – injured.

Italo did not detail the severity of the injury to his left, which will rule him out of contention at the ISA Games. The competition starts this Friday (16), in California (USA) and offers an additional spot in the 2024 Olympics to the champion country. He will be replaced by Jadson André.

“A few weeks ago I injured my left foot and had to keep surfing, because I had the final of the world, for a greater purpose! The injury was getting worse with the daily effort and high commitment to performance. If I continued with the same rhythm would have to go under the knife,” Italo explained in a Twitter post.

Italo did not say what the recovery period or treatment used will be. According to his advice, the athlete’s treatment will be based on rest, immobilization and physical therapy.

After qualifying for the “Finals”, an event with the five best surfers of the season, Italo reached the final, against then leader Filipe Toledo. He, however, ended up defeated by the native of Ubatuba (SP) in a best of three heats dispute.

“One hour the bill arrives! Just so I can keep quiet and get better from the injury”, completed Italo, on Instagram.
