The decision of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, to grant freedom to ex-president Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) former aide-de-camp, Mauro Cidtakes place exactly one week after the Army soldier’s testimony to the FBI.

Cid was arrested for the second time in March this year, after Veja magazine published a report based on audio recordings by the lieutenant colonel against Moraes against the Federal Police. At the time, he had told a caller that he had been coerced into signing a plea bargain agreement. Cid’s defense denied the fact.

Last Friday, April 26th, Mauro Cid gave a statement lasting just over 2 hours to authorities from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who signed a cooperation agreement with the Federal Police. The objective is to investigate the actions of Cid and Bolsonaro in the jewelry case.

PF agents even went to the United States to collect evidence on the suspicion that Bolsonaro had ordered the sale of watches that were given as gifts to the Brazilian government by the Saudi Arabian government during his term in office. At least one watch was sold and then repurchased by Bolsonaro’s lawyer, Frederick Wasseff.
