The Dmae (Municipal Department of Water and Sewage) reported the suspension of the operation of the SAA (Water Supply System) Moinhos de Vento, this Friday (3), due to the flooding of the Guaíba.

The affected neighborhoods are:

  • Forest
  • Independence
  • Botanical Garden
  • God Boy
  • windmills
  • Mont Serrat
  • Parthenon

  • Santa Cecilia
  • Santana
  • Saint John
  • Three Figueiras

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul issued an alert for “extreme flooding” in Guaíba — which is valid for 24 hours. According to the agency, the population should avoid regions close to the river and risky places.

Images show the Internacional and Grêmio CTs completely flooded. The bus station and the historic center of the capital were also taken by water. On social media, the EPTC (Public Transport and Circulation Company) advised that travel to the city should be avoided and the population should seek safe places.

Gate 14 is part of the city’s flood protection system. It is located between Sertório and Voluntários da Pátria avenues. “There was a rupture at gate 14 of Cais Mauá and this could lead to flooding on Avenida Sertório, in the north of the capital”, informed the mayor
