A pitbull dog was shot dead this Monday (29) after attacking a team from the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ). The employees were carrying out an operation to demolish two irregular buildings on Ilha da Gigóia, located in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the Public Ministry, a prosecutor was injured and needed medical attention. The case was registered at the region’s police station, with the aim of determining the responsibility of the animal’s owner.

About the operation
A partnership between the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) and the Municipal Public Order Secretariat (Seop), the operation aims to demolish two buildings built without authorization from the City Hall.
The first building was nearing completion and the second was in progress. The buildings were erected irregularly without a license and do not meet the region’s urban planning parameters.
The buildings have three floors and two to four apartments per floor. The Ministry reported that the losses, for those responsible, are estimated at R$3.5 million. The buildings have approximately 900 square meters of built area.
