The head of the agency highlighted the cut in resources to an audience of money laundering experts at an event held this month at the USP Law School, in the center of São Paulo.

For this year, Coaf informed the UOL which has R$17.6 million, almost 30% less than it had last year for discretionary expenses (not linked to mandatory expenses, such as payroll).

It is the lowest value since 2019, considering numbers updated for inflation. Data from Siafi, the system that records government payments, shows that R$8.4 million has already been committed for the year.

The resources pay for expenses such as daily allowances, airline tickets, contributions to international organizations (fundamental for exchanging intelligence information), information technology services and equipment. In 2023, Coaf had R$23.6 million for this type of expense — R$6 million more than this year — and used 99.8% of the amount.

Car wash and cracks
