The Civil Police arrested this Wednesday (24) a man suspected of having killed psychologist Fabiana Maia Veras. The crime occurred in the municipality of Assu late this Tuesday afternoon (23) and the suspect was arrested in Natal, around 200 km away from the crime scene. The identity of the arrested man has not yet been revealed.
The operation to arrest the suspect included the participation of the Assu Police Station, Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP) and the Qualified Investigation Center (NIQ).
The crime
A woman, identified as Fabiana Maia Veras, was found dead inside a residence in Assu, in the Oeste Potiguar region, during the late afternoon of Tuesday. According to the Military Police, the victim’s body was tied up and showed signs of violence, indicating a possible physical struggle.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the psychologist’s residence, provided by the Military Police, show that at around 4:40 pm a short, strong man, dressed in a formal shirt, jeans, gloves and a face covered with an Arab cloth, was waiting in front of the place. It takes her a while to recognize him, but she opens the door anyway. According to the Military Police, the woman’s behavior may demonstrate that she knew the suspect.
When the man entered, she showed him the clinic, which operated in the same location, and at the same time seemed surprised by his clothes. They entered a room in the residence and after 20 minutes the man came out with a cloth covered in blood and waited for a black Peugeot Sedan vehicle without hubcaps. In addition to the driver, the PM’s information is that there was also another person in the front seat.
According to the Military Police, the camera images were passed on to the Civil Police, who confirmed that the case should be investigated by the Assu Police Station. There is no information about the possible relationship between the victim and the man.
Hours before the crime, the psychologist published a video on social media talking to her followers about the importance of positivity and the importance of avoiding saying negative words about oneself. Fabiana was very active on Instagram, offering mental health tips and showing her intense training routine.
