Two days after the death of golden retriver Joca, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), wore this Wednesday (24/4), a tie with dogs drawn in honor of the animal and demanded that there be greater inspection of transport aerial of animals.

“I think GOL has to be accountable, I think Anac has to monitor this and I think we cannot allow this to continue happening in Brazil”, said the president, citing the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), which Its role is to regulate and supervise activity in the country.

João Fantazzini Júnior, the animal’s owner, was going from São Paulo to Sinop, in Mato Grosso, but Joca ended up being sent by the airline to Fortaleza. After the error was noticed, the animal was sent to the city of Mato Grosso, but arrived dead at its destination.

The company acknowledged the error in transportation, but claimed that on Ceará soil the animal received all the care before being shipped to Sinop. A company also decided to suspend the transport of animals.

The São Paulo Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the animal, which was five years old. The estimate was that the animal would spend 2h30 traveling, but the period was 8h.

The dog’s body will be subjected to examinations and reports will be sent to investigators.
