A fire hits the floors of a building under construction in the west zone of Recife, in Pernambuco, on Thursday night (28.mar.2024). Fire Department teams are on site to contain the spread of the flames. Civil Defense blocked access to streets and areas close to the region.
Images circulating on social media show pieces of the construction falling to the ground. There is no information about people injured or the cause of the fire.
The governor Raquel Lyra (PSDB-PE) said on its profile on X (formerly Twitter) that it was following the episode. “The Fire Department is working at the scene and is ensuring that all people who live in the area are safe.“.
The mayor of Recife, João Campos (PSB-PE), said that he is also following the case and that the COP (Recife Operations Center) is monitoring the fire.
The burning building is on the corner of Padre Anchieta and Real da Torre streets. Neighbors recorded the fire that reached at least 2 floors.
