The Hague orders Israel to guarantee food in Gaza to avoid genocide

Now, the Court expands its precautionary measures and asks Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to:

Take all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without delay, in full cooperation with the United Nations, the unimpeded provision at scale by all parties involved of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance, including food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter , clothing, hygiene and sanitation requirements, as well as medical supplies and medical care for Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip, including by increasing the capacity and number of land crossing points and keeping them open for as long as necessary.”

Ensure, with immediate effect, that your armed forces do not commit acts that constitute a violation of any of the rights of the Palestinians in Gaza as a group protected by the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, including by preventing, through any action , the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance.

Submit a report to the Court on all measures taken to give effect to this Order within one month.

The measures increase pressure on Netanyahu, after the UN Security Council approved for the first time earlier this week a resolution calling for a ceasefire, as well as the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

Just this week, for the first time a document within the UN framework described the situation in Gaza as “genocide”, which was vigorously denied by Israel. The UN rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, described the military offensive on Gaza as a crime of genocide.
