Former president Jai Bolsonaro (PL) asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, to return his passport so he could travel to Israel. According to Fabio Wajngarten, the former agent’s lawyer, the document would be used for a “determined period of time”.
“As it is in the public domain, international relations are part of political activity as well as expanding dialogue with global leaders,” explained Wajngarten on a social network.
In the petition sent to the STF, Bolsonaro’s defense informs that on the 26th he was invited by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, to visit the country between the 12th and 18th of May.
The lawyers emphasize in the request that “authorization for this trip does not entail any risk to the process, especially considering the commitments previously scheduled in Brazil, which require the presence of the petitioner after his return from Israel”.
Operation Tempus Veritatis
One of the targets of Operation Tempus Veritatis, Bolsonaro had his passport seized as a precautionary measure as part of the investigation investigating “attempted coup d’état and abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law”. The objective of those involved, according to the Federal Police, would be to obtain a political advantage by keeping Bolsonaro in power.
In addition to Bolsonaro, high-ranking military personnel under investigation also had their passports seized, as well as being banned from communicating with each other.
