Frenchwoman Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is the richest woman in the world, according to the list released by Forbes magazine this Tuesday (2). The granddaughter of Eugène Scheller, founder of the L’Oréal group, has an estimated fortune of 99.5 billion dollars (R$502.4 billion, at current prices).

Françoise is the richest in the world for the fourth year in a row. In the last year, the billionaire increased her fortune by 19 billion dollars (R$95.95 billion, at current prices), according to Forbes. She is close to being the first woman to join the select group of those with a fortune greater than 100 billion dollars.

Alice Walton, Walmart heiress, is second on the list. Julia Koch, widow of David Koch, owner of Koch Industries, Jacqueline Mars, one of the owners of Mars, the largest candy producer in the world, and MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Jeff Bezoscomplete the list of the five richest.

Rafaela Aponte-Diamant, the seventh richest woman on the planet, is the only one on the list who did not inherit her parents’ or husband’s fortune. She co-founded one of the world’s largest shipping companies, MSC.

This year, the number of women on the list of billionaires grew, according to Forbes. In 2024, 369 of the 2,781 billionaires are women, representing 13.3%. Last year, there were 337 (12.8% of the list).
