Expansion of a franchise that began in the 1980s, the project will arrive on a streaming service soon.

Everything in Every Place at the Same Time was a real hit in the film industry. In addition to bringing talented artists back into the spotlight, such as Ke Huy Quan, it increased Michelle Yeoh’s “pass” in both the quality of projects and the quantity of proposals for the Oscar winner.

This Tuesday morning (07), the actress announced her next project, a production that should please both the artist’s fans and science fiction lovers: Blade Runner 2099. Sequel to the 2017 feature film, Blade Runner 2049, the miniseries produced by Amazon Studios and will be released worldwide on Prime Video.

For now, the role of the actress and the plot of the narrative have not yet been revealed. As one of the biggest science fiction franchises, the project will be an expansion of the cyberpunk saga based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?in the novel by Philip K. Dick, which was started in 1982 by Ridley Scott.

Scheduled to go into production last year, the series had its schedule changed during the period of strikes by writers and actors. After this turbulent period, work began in Prague, Czech Republic.

Alongside Scott, Silka Luisa, known for The Shining, Halo and Strange Angel, will also take on the role of executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken, from Shogun, will direct the first two episodes and is also expected to produce the futuristic attraction.

The plot must follow the events of Blade Runner 2049. In the 2017 film, after the problems faced with the Nexus 8, a new species of replicants is developed, so that they are more obedient to humans. One of them is K (Ryan Gosling), a blade runner who hunts down fugitive replicants for the Los Angeles police.

After meeting Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista), K discovers a fascinating secret: the replicant Rachel (Sean Young) had a son, kept secret until then. The possibility that replicants reproduce could trigger a war between them and humans, which causes Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright), K’s boss, to send him to find and eliminate the child.

While Blade Rubber is available on Max, Blade Runner 2049 can be seen on Netflix. Blade Runner 2099 will arrive directly in the Prime Video catalog.
