The possibility of a major death has been theorized for Avengers 5, which, if confirmed, would have a major impact on the reboot of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

X-MEN, DAREDEVIL AND ALL DEADPOOL 3 PARTICIPATIONS

The Avengers films are notably the most profitable in the MCU, with each of the franchise’s four films surpassing the billion-dollar mark in worldwide box office. Infinity War and Endgame, the last two, even entered the two billion club. In other words, expectations for Avengers 5 are very high.

Interestingly, Marvel chose not to include an Avengers film in Phases 4 and 5 of the MCU, a decision that, along with other factors, led to intense criticism of the franchise’s Multiverse Saga.

However, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will return in two films in Phase 6: Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. The last Avengers film ended with the sacrifice of Tony Stark, Iron Man, to save the universe. Now, a new sacrifice is suggested for the next Avengers film.

Will Deadpool die alongside Thor?

Among upcoming releases, Deadpool & Wolverine has been attracting attention. Marvel has released two stunning trailers for this film, which will be the studio’s only 2024 release.

The multiversal story promised for this third Deadpool film places it as one of the most important projects in the MCU Multiverse Saga. The trailers have already shown viewing records and revealed several surprises, including the presence of beloved characters and exciting easter eggs.

During a presentation at CinemaCon 2024, a new clip from the film was shown that revealed a quick appearance by Chris Hemsworth as Thor. In the video, Thor appears sad, holding an apparently lifeless Deadpool, with half of Wade Wilson’s mask torn off.

This scene, which took place in front of TVA monitors, seemed to predict a future event, possibly linking to Avengers 5. Deadpool’s death, before the X-Men reboot, would be paradoxically beneficial for the MCU.

Since Disney’s acquisition of Fox, which allowed Marvel to incorporate mutants into its projects, some X-Men have already started to appear in the MCU. However, so far, Marvel has not cast any new actors to play its iconic mutants.

With the introduction of characters like Charles Xavier and Beast, played by the same actors from Fox’s X-Men franchise, Marvel has been leaning into X-Men nostalgia. However, for the MCU’s X-Men to prosper, they cannot rely solely on the past.

Too Much Nostalgia May Not Be a Good Thing for Marvel

The recent failure of projects like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania demonstrates the need for Marvel to find a new audience. Persisting in nostalgia and continuing to use the same actors from previous versions of the X-Men would bring an unnecessary burden to the Fox universe, which has had its own problems.

Ryan Reynolds’ stay as Deadpool beyond the Multiverse Saga could perpetuate these problems, which is why his future death has been hinted at. Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall, which has led to hilarious moments in superhero films, but this ability could become problematic if used permanently in the MCU.

With the character becoming increasingly aware of Marvel Studios’ plans for the MCU, it would be difficult to create realistic threats for the Avengers. Therefore, leaving Deadpool aside to focus on assembling the X-Men may be the best path for Marvel. Thus bringing death into Kang Dynasty potentially accelerating this transition.
