In a podcast with Denis Villeneuve, Steven Spielberg praised the narrative and world-building made in Dune 2, released on February 29, 2024

During participation in the podcast The Director’s CutSpielberg spoke directly with Villeneuve about his vision for the second film of the adaptation of the books Frank Herbert. “It’s an honor for me to sit here and talk to you,” she said.
“Let me start by saying that there are filmmakers who are world builders. It’s not a long list and we know who many of them are. This is a desert love story, but for a film that loves the desert, there is a great desire for water in this film,” Spielberg said. Dune 2. “For all the sand you have in this film, it’s really about water. The sacred waters that yearn for green meadows and the blue water of life. You film the desert to look like an ocean, a sea. The sandworms were like sea serpents. And that scene surfing the sandworms is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Ever! But you made the desert look like liquid. You made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I’ve ever seen.”
Finally, Dennis Villeneuve took the opportunity to thank the legendary filmmaker for his praise for the film: “Steveyou know you are my master, and that is a great compliment from you, so I thank you.”
