A new Aranhaverso animated short film produced in partnership between Sony Pictures Animation and the Kevin Love Fund premiered this Wednesday (27). Starring Miles Morales, it shows how even one of New York’s most powerful superheroes may also be plagued with anxiety and personal ghosts.
In The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, we follow how the protagonist tries to balance his school responsibilities, teenage relationships, friends and his secondary life protecting innocents. After a very stressful day, he ends up having a panic attack that forces him to rethink the way he has been acting.
The intention of the story produced with the help of the Kevin Love Fund is to show that even those who seem strong and independent also have personal problems. Likewise, the plot proves that there is nothing weak about asking for helpand that this is often the only way we can take care of our mental health.
New Aranhaverso short raises awareness about mental health
The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is part of the Leading and Empowering New Storytellers (LENS) program, which helps people belonging to minorities make space in the world of animation. The Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks project brought together talents who, for 9 months, worked together to create the short film.

The final result was directed by Jarelle Dampier and scripted by Khaila Amazan, with production by Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg, both from LENS. Clara Chan, special effects supervisor, and animation supervisor Joe Darko are also part of the program’s initial team.
The Kevin Love Foundation was established in 2018 by the basketball player who is currently a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was one of the first athletes to speak openly about the mental health issues he facedincluding issues such as depression and problems dealing with anger and anxiety.
The animation starring Miles Morales should help ease the character’s fans’ wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse, a film that should answer many questions left open. Although the project remains in production within Sony Animation, so far it does not even have a release date.
