The wooden door that Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio appeared clinging to in one of the most famous scenes from Titanic (1997) it was sold for US$718 thousand, around R$3.5 million at auction.
At Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event, there were also other items that made cinema history, such as Indiana Jones’ whip in The Temple of Doom (1984), purchased for US$525,000 (R$2.6 million) and Jack Nicholson’s ax in The Shining (1980), which sold for US$125,000 (R$621,000).

The auction house explained that, in fact, “part of the door frame just above the entrance to the first class lounge [do navio]”. Therefore, the protagonists of Titanic were not exactly on top of the door, but supported on part of the set.
A dress that Kate Winslet wore during the end of the film was also sold at the event and cost around US$125,000 (R$621,000).

In the 1997 film, after the ship sank, the couple fought for their lives in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. The door then appeared amid the wreckage of the ship and Kate Winslet’s girl climbed in, while Leonardo DiCaprio’s heartthrob froze to death because “there wasn’t room for both of them”.
