Manaus/AM – More than 340 motorcycles that circulated with “free discharges”, those famous noisy exhausts, which usually disturb residents, were removed during operations by the State Department of Traffic of Amazonas (Detran-AM), this year in Manaus alone.

Arthur Cruz, general coordinator of Detran Inspection, highlights that the practice of “free discharge”, in which the motorcycle operates only through a pipe without a muffler or silencer, has become a public health and safety issue.

“Excessive noise can lead to stress, disrupted sleep and even long-term health problems. Additionally, free-flushing on motorcycles can result in toxic gas emissions above permitted limits, contributing to air pollution.”

Drivers caught in this situation may be covered by Article 230, This results in a fine (R$ 195.23) and retention of the vehicle until the irregularity is corrected.

In addition to financial sanctions and retention of the vehicle, drivers can be arrested for committing a criminal offense, an extreme measure adopted to ensure others’ right to peace of mind.

Portal do Holanda was founded on November 14, 2005. First with a column, named after its founder, journalist Raimundo de Holanda. Then it moved to Blog do Holanda and finally Portal do Holanda. It was one of the first websites in the State of Amazonas. It is audited by IVC and ComScore.
