Teams from the Bahia Military Fire Department (CBMBA) intensified the searches for three missing people in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, on Wednesday (80).

Since his arrival on the previous Thursday (02), Bahian firefighters joined other rescue groups in the country, carrying out searches in areas affected by heavy rains.

Until last Tuesday (07), 212 people were rescued from risk areas, while six bodies were recovered.

A Operation continues to face challenges, with the constant risk of new landslides. However, the climate conditions adverse forced the suspension of operations in the afternoon, after a backhoe used in the mission got stuck, requiring a rescue operation that lasted approximately one hour.

In Galópolis, district of Caxias do Sul, teams were searching for another 14 missing people, increasing the total number of missing people across the state to 100.

Colonel BM Jadson Almeida emphasized the complexity of the firefighters’ work. “This Wednesday we did not locate any of the missing people. It is a very delicate job, our firefighters work with tools such as shovels to dig the earth and in many cases they also use their hands. In Bento Gonçalves they had the support of a backhoe. We are following recommendations from family members and have drawn up quadrants to carry out detailed searches. It is a very delicate, precise and tiring performance, but we will remain here until we complete our work”explained Colonel BM.
