The event is an initiative of the National Association of Federal Police Delegates (ADPF), in partnership with the Federal District Research Support Foundation (FAPDF), and also celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Federal Police (PF). The meeting was attended by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, and the Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, Sandro Avelar, as well as interlocutors from the PF and other public and private sectors of the security ecosystem in Brazil and the exterior. “We are aligned with the guidelines of the governor of the DF, Ibaneis Rocha, to transform Brasília into an intelligent and humanized city. FAPDF’s promotion of programs is fundamental for the development of public policies, based on evidence, with a focus on improving security in the Federal District”, declared the president of the foundation, Marco Antônio Costa Júnior.

Luciano Soares Leiro, president of ADPF, lamented the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul; A minute of silence was observed in respect for the victims of the floods in the state. The president thanked all the support given to the symposium. “This event managed to bring a good part of the country’s security and intelligence, with Brazilian and international authorities. There are more than 17 countries participating, bringing together public and private sectors. I am also grateful for our partnership with FAPDF, which has stood out in promoting science and technology in the Federal District,” he said.

The Secretary of Public Security and president of the National Council of Public Security Secretaries (Consesp), Sandro Torres Avelar, recalled that public security is the duty of the State, but the right and responsibility of everyone. “And what allows this comprehensive effort is the use of technology to prevent crimes,” he said. “In the Federal District, there is the use of monitoring technologies that can intercept a potential aggressor, preventing, for example, femicide. This year alone, there were 47 interceptions made using the secretariat’s tool to prevent this type of fatality.”

The Minister of Justice and Public Security reaffirmed that security is every citizen’s right. And cited the book Leviathan, by the English political theorist and philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who places public security as the basis of the State. “It is the first right established for citizens in the formation of the Modern State”, pondered Lewandowski.

The 6th International Security Symposium ends this Thursday (9), at the Conjunto Brasil International Convention Center (CICB).
