On October 5, 2023, Tocantins completed 35 years of emancipation. The city is for everyone! Tocantins is crossed by rivers and mountain ranges that help to create unique and stunning landscapes, divided into seven tourist regions: Encantos do Jalapão, Serras Gerais, Ilha do Bananal, Serras e Lago, Beaches and Lakes of Cantão, Vale dos Grandes Rios and Bico do Pargaio. With a strong tourist vocation for ecotourism and adventure tourism, the youngest state in the Federation combines centuries-old traditions with the magnetism of Palmas, a contemporary city, planned in straight lines, between the mountains and the lake, where different cultures and accents coexist. in full harmony, and from where tourists depart for diverse experiences.

JALAPÃO – Located east of Tocantins, on the border with the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia, Jalapão has a landscape that harmonizes the aridity of the Cerrado with an immense web of rivers, streams and streams of crystal clear waters. The name Jalapão originated from Jalapa, one of the many typical plants used by natural medicine “doctors” who live in quilombola communities in the region, such as Mumbuca and Rio Novo, in Mateiros, and the Prata community, in the municipality of São Félix, where there is community-based tourism and golden grass crafts. Climbing the dunes to watch the sunset, diving in the crystal clear waters of Cachoeira do Formiga, being surprised by the sensations caused by the boiling waters are priceless experiences. SERRAS GERAIS – Diversity is the perfect translation for the Serras Gerais Tourist Region! There are so many natural attractions and experience routes that it is difficult to choose just one among so many destinations bordered by the Serras Gerais, the largest mountain range in Brazil. In this region, there are the oldest cities in the ancient north of Goiás, built almost 300 years ago, during the Gold Cycle. The preservation of religious, festive and gastronomic traditions is one of the highlights. Added to this is a naturally welcoming people. As for nature, it is impossible not to be enchanted by transparent lakes and paradisiacal lagoons, impressive waterfalls, intriguing rock formations and all the richness of the Cerrado flora. Vale dos Pássaros, an environmental preservation sanctuary anchored by the Cortina waterfall.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF SERRAS GERAIS: Historical and cultural heritage in Natividade, Dianópolis, Arraias, Paranã and Taguatinga; waterfalls, caves, rivers and lagoons. CANTÃO STATE PARK – Birdwatching is one of the attractions of Cantão, which has multiple charms. It is on the border with the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso and Pará, a transition region between the Cerrado, Pantanal and Amazon Forest biomes. During the dry season, the State Park and municipalities in the region enchant with beautiful and preserved river beaches, perfect for camping. When the rains fall, from October to May, visitors can find this ecotourism sanctuary at its most vibrant. The Araguaia, Coco and Javaé rivers meet and form a delta that overflows with the increase in water volume and opens water trails.

Whatever the season, taking a few days to visit Cantão means having the opportunity to be amazed by the observation of several of the approximately 500 birds common in the region. It is also possible to observe otters, caimans and, with any luck, even jaguars.

The region is also an oasis for sport fishing, with 44 cataloged species, many of them of great commercial and sporting value, such as tucunaré, pirarucu and pirarara.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF THE CANTON – River beaches, igapós, dry and water trails (embarked), flora and fauna in the municipalities of Araguacema, Caseara and Pium.

PALMAS – Water sports are on the list of attractions in Palmas. Main gateway to the State. Palmas attracts with the modernity of its layout, the offer of a quality hospitality and leisure network and the variety of tourist attractions. To the west, the city is bathed by the calm waters of the lake, and to the east, it is marked by the lush greenery and contours of the Serra do Lajeado, remembered by dozens of waterfalls. From Palmas, all access through the Serras and Lagos Tourist Region is easily done, by land, to the municipalities of Lajeado, Miracema, Porto Nacional, Paraíso do Tocantins, Brejinho de Nazaré and Ipueiras, which forms the Serras Tourist Region and Lake. Each one tells its story and reflects typical activities of the region, including important cultural and religious events, as well as nautical activities and sport fishing, provided by the Usina de Lajeado Lake.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF PALMS AND THE REGION: Museums, historic centers, waterfalls, lake/beaches, parks, events. Highlights include Taquaruçu and the beaches of Palmas, the historic center of Porto Nacional, the beaches of Miracema and Lajeado.
