This Thursday morning (9), the Federal Police launched Operation “Pequeno Smart”, which investigates the sale of Chinese brand smartphones and smartwatches, electronic items possibly internalized on the national market without paying due taxes.
A search and seizure warrant was executed in the Cidade Jardim neighborhood, south zone of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, at the residence of the person responsible for selling the items.
The police action also found that the person being investigated possibly purchases the products in popular shopping areas in Natal and São Paulo, as well as abroad (Paraguay).
The investigation also managed to link the investigated person to five profiles on a social network dedicated to the sale of products. Obtaining registration data from this network made it possible to identify more than 200 advertisements for the sale of smartphones and smartwatches between January 2022 and February 2024.
The crime charged to the person involved in this case is embezzlement, the maximum penalty for which is four years in prison.
“False Garden”
In another police operation launched on this date, the Federal Police, aiming to prohibit the crime of counterfeit currency in an investigation investigating the acquisition of counterfeit banknotes and their shipment by the Post Office, intercepted a postal package containing R$1,000 in counterfeit money and which was divided into twenty R$50 notes.
The police carried out a search and seizure warrant in the Planalto neighborhood, west of the capital, at the home address of the person responsible for acquiring the material.
In this case, the crime attributed to the person being investigated is counterfeit currency, with penalties ranging from three to twelve years in prison, in addition to a fine.
It is worth remembering that the circulation of counterfeit money is a crime and can cause harm to society.
