And to mitigate these problems, this Thursday (9) four new sanctions were announced by the Government to reduce the rates of illegal deforestation, among which the creation of a registry for those who violate environmental laws stands out.

  • Creation of CEIA (State Registry of Environmental Offenders);
  • Registration of environmental fines on the property registration; It is
  • Prohibition or suspension of environmental incentives for deforesters.

In the first two months of the year alone, Mato Grosso applied around R$2.3 million in fines for environmental crimes.

Furthermore, on April 14, a single cattle rancher was arrested accused of deforesting 80 thousand hectares of the Pantanal. In real values, the fines for this crime reach almost R$3 billion.

The environmental protection measure continues to be voted on in the ALMT (Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso). According to the State Government, current ways of dealing with deforestation have not been efficient.

In addition to sanctions for environmental offenders, there is the prospect of an investment of R$74.5 million to combat forest fires and illegal deforestation throughout the year.
