The mayor of the municipality of São José, in the State of Santa Catarina, Orvino Coelho (PSD), celebrated the arrival of new vehicles and weapons for the city’s Municipal Guard. Holding one of the acquired rifles, the manager states, in a video published this Tuesday, 7th, that he will “put criminals in jail”. In total, there are 14 new weapons, to “protect the citizen”, which cost R$ 165 thousand.

According to the mayor, supporter of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the criminals must “run”, because in the city “work doesn’t stop” and there is “no time for crime to organize”. Smiling, Coelho says that the new equipment encourages a “happy face”.

As reported to the Estadãothe city of São José purchased from Taurus, a company based in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, four rifles worth R$ 15,700 each, four shotguns for R$ 7,300 each, four carbines that total the value of R$58 thousand and two grenade launchers that cost R$7.6 thousand each.

The vehicles were purchased for a total value of R$780 thousand, with one of the vehicles costing R$216 thousand and the other four, R$140.9 thousand each.

In a note, the city hall informs that “the heavy investments” aim to reinforce the security of the city, which has specific legislation that allows the arming of the Municipal Guard. The mayor reinforces that “the rifles were bought to be used” and that if any agent or “good citizen” is in danger, the guard “must use the firepower they have.”

The municipality also declared that a public competition was opened to hire 40 new guard agents, which will increase the number of employees by 40%.
