BNDES expands customers and credit approvals in MS with amounts reaching R$ 1.1 billion

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) expanded the institution’s operations in Mato Grosso do Sul in the first three months of 2024, supporting 568 businesses, 49 more customers than in the same period last year. In total, approvals of credit operations for companies in the state totaled R$1.1 billion, a value 245% higher than the first quarter of 2023, when the institution had approved R$339.5 million.

The approvals reached important sectors for the local economy, such as R$213.7 million for agriculture, R$52 million for trade in services, R$621 million for industry and R$282.9 million for infrastructure. For micro, small and medium-sized companies, approvals totaled R$276.5 million, a value 98% higher than in 2023.

“We resume the BNDES mission of promoting the country’s development, in all regions, contributing to the strengthening of business and the generation of jobs and income, priorities of President Lula’s government”, explains the bank’s president, Aloizio Mercadante. “The Bank’s excellent results in the first quarter prove that the Brazilian economy is growing and that expanding access to credit brings benefits for everyone”, he adds.

In the quarter, approvals for the Central-West region grew 101% compared to the same period in 2023, totaling R$3.8 billion. There were R$1.8 billion for agriculture, R$623.4 million for infrastructure, R$493 million for the commerce and services sector and R$970.5 million for industry. Approvals for micro, small and medium-sized companies totaled R$2.4 billion, an increase of 146% compared to 2023. In the first quarter of the year, BNDES supported 3,024 businesses in the region, 40.6% more than in the same period 2023.
