Alagoas is the 3rd state in the country with the lowest number of hospitalizations caused by land transport accidents, according to the 2023 State Competitiveness Ranking, a study produced by the Public Leadership Center (CLP). According to the survey, Alagoas recorded 66.4 hospitalizations for each group of 100 thousand inhabitants in the year 2022. In the Ranking, traffic morbidity is one of the indicators of the Public Safety pillar.

Rio Grande do Sul and Amazonas were in 1st and 2nd place in the ranking, with 38.2 and 45.4 hospitalizations per 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively. The indicator is based on data from Datasus and IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

The CEO of Detran Alagoas (State Department of Traffic), Marco Fireman, highlights that the state rose two positions in the ranking compared to the previous year. “We are reducing the rates of accidents and deaths on the state’s roads and highways, and this is due both to infrastructure improvements in the Alagoas road network, mainly between Agreste and Sertão, and to the constant work on traffic education, raising awareness children, young people and adults to have responsibility. There is still a long way to go, but the data from the Competitiveness Ranking shows that we are on the right track,” he says.

In addition to Public Security, the Competitiveness Ranking is made up of nine other pillars, formulated with numbers and data extracted from official bodies and sources, and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each Brazilian state, in order to support government actions and the development of public policies.
