Ministers of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) are beginning to talk about a possible postponement of the municipal elections in Rio Grande do Sul. The first round of the municipal election in the country is scheduled to take place on October 6th.
The column heard members of the Court, who reported that the matter is still handled informally and in a very reserved and incipient manner.
There is, however, a concern due to the logistics involved in an entire election. The operation is already considered a challenge in normal times. Apprehension grows in the face of an environmental disaster like the one that affects 397 cities in the state.
The electoral calendar is already running. From May 15th, for example, pre-candidates can start fundraising through crowdfunding — something unthinkable for pre-candidates from RS at a time when the country is coming together to help flood victims.
On July 20, parties can begin holding conventions to deliberate on coalitions and choose candidates for the positions of mayor, vice-mayor and councilor. The campaign officially starts on August 16th.
When contacted, the president of the TSE, minister Cármen Lúcia, did not comment. The minister was elected yesterday (7) to command the Court during this electoral period.
