Banks are fined in Manaus for failing to comply with waiting times in queues

Manaus/AM – The Amazonas Consumer Protection Institute (Procon-AM) carried out a series of inspections this Wednesday (8) at bank branches located in the central area of ​​the city.

Of the three banks, only two were fined for non-compliance with the queuing law, the other financial institution was notified by the Libras Interpreter law, which determines that public bodies and banking institutions must provide Brazilian Sign Language interpreters to meet the needs of the deaf community. .

The two agencies fined under Filas law no. 5,867/2022 must pay an initial fine of 50 thousand, however, if the infractions are repeated, the amount may increase, due to what is provided for by law.

“In one of the agencies inspected, the population arrived and collected a password, which needed to be exchanged for another, so that the service could actually begin. In this case, it was a way to get around the 30-minute time limit on weekdays. A person who was at the scene told the other agents that he had been waiting for 60 minutes”, said Procon-AM inspection agent, Saint Cyr.

According to the legislation, waiting time at bank branches and the like must be 30 minutes on normal days, 40 minutes on the eve and after long holidays, and 50 minutes on pay days for municipal public servants, due to the complexity of the services provided.

In case of non-compliance with the Queuing Law, Procon-AM advises the consumer to request authentication of the arrival password, with the service time, and take this document to the agency to formalize the complaint or call (92) 3215 -4009 / 08000921512 and report the situation so that the situation can be investigated and punished in accordance with current legislation.
