ANTT admits imposing fines on trucks with donations to RS

The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) admitted that fines were imposed on trucks transporting donations to victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. In a video posted on the agency’s official profile on YouTube, the general director of ANTT, Rafael Vitale , acknowledges that there were “specific cases” of fines for being overweight, but stated that these fines will be annulled.

“It is important to say that all of these cases, there were six, continued their journeys without any retention on the scale when we found that they were donations”, reinforced Vitale. “The premise of our work is to facilitate the transport of these donations and work to reestablish logistical flows in the region”, added the general director of ANTT.

Earlier, the agency published an ordinance in which it exempts regular inspection procedures for cargo transport vehicles loaded with donations destined for Rio Grande do Sul. Among the measures adopted by ANTT to guarantee the uniformity of procedures, the release of donations will be guaranteed by “a simple verbal statement from the driver”.

Drivers reported the imposition of fines

On Monday (6), a video went viral on social media showing the driver of a truck that left Santa Catarina heading to the neighboring state and whose driver stated that he had been stopped at a checkpoint, that the cargo had been barred due to being overweight and an invoice was required for the donations transported.

A People’s Gazette, representatives of the company that owns the vehicle reported that the video was published by a third party. The company explained that the truck was stopped during weighing, that the load was found to be around 500 kilos in excess, but that the truck and cargo continued their journey and arrived at their destination in the early hours of Monday, without any type of notification or application. of fine.

A report broadcast by SBT’s Tá na Hora program, also on Monday, interviewed drivers at inspection and weighing points. One of them presented the reporter with a fine worth R$200 for being overweight and not having an invoice for the load. Another said he was notified because he did not have an invoice for the donations.

ANTT called the reports about the fines of donation trucks “fake news”

On Tuesday (7), https://twitter.com/ANTT_oficial/status/1788016944345412018 the information that trucks with donations were being ticketed on the highways. In a post on its profile on X, the agency said there were “no fines imposed on vehicles transporting donations”.

The government of Rio Grande do Sul also stated that there were no fines imposed on vehicles and that there are no – nor were there – retained shipments. “In view of information published in the press about fines applied to trucks with donations sent to Rio Grande do Sul at a checkpoint of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), in Santa Catarina, the State Finance Secretariat reiterates that there is no blockade [por parte da Receita Estadual] for the purpose of verifying the invoice of vehicles with goods destined for those affected by floods when it comes to donations”, responded the government of Rio Grande do Sul.
