Menstrual dignity for 5,457 women with the delivery of 252,736 pads in the state of Acre. This was what the Ministry of Health’s Menstrual Health and Dignity Protection and Promotion Program provided in the first months of the year to the state, which has 18 accredited pharmacies in 12 of the 22 cities in Acre. And the State Secretariat for Women (Semulher) is an important dissemination channel so that access to the program reaches the greatest number of people.

The federal government created the Menstrual Dignity Program to promote awareness about the naturalness of the menstrual cycle and the free offer of sanitary pads to women between 10 and 49 years old, who do not have access to this fundamental item.

Each person is entitled to 40 units of sanitary pads to use during two menstrual cycles, that is, every 56-day period. Recently, the number of pharmacies accredited in the Farmácia Popular do Brasil Program rose to 18. The complete list and address of each unit is available on the website.

The Secretary for Women, Márdhia El-Shawwa Pereira, highlights that the program is an important step towards promoting health and well-being for all women in the country.

“There are many cases in which women have to use, as absorbents, items that are not suitable for this use. Many even use newspapers during their menstrual period. We know that the lack of this type of product can have consequences on physical health, as well as emotional and even social health, as it limits women’s participation in everyday life and exacerbates social inequalities”, she highlights.

The secretariat has been involved in disseminating information so that the greatest number of women have access to the benefit.

“It is essential that all women and girls have dignified and equal access to menstrual hygiene products, and we are committed to working, together with the federal government and other bodies, to ensure that this basic need is met for all, without exception” , emphasizes the secretary.
