Luciano surpassed Calleri in São Paulo’s top scorer this season after the 3-1 triumph over Vitória, last Sunday (5), at Barradão, in the Brazilian Championship. Tricolor’s number 10 scored twice, reaching seven goals for the team in 2024, one more than the Argentine.
The two goals scored by Luciano happened precisely in the match in which he played more advanced, forming an attacking duo with Calleri. In the other matches in which he started under the command of Luis Zubeldía, the number 10 was used in ways in which he was unable to show his best football.
Right on Zubeldía’s debut in charge of São Paulo, against Barcelona de Guayaquil, in Ecuador, for the Libertadores, Luciano was used as a kind of midfielder, but with a lot of freedom to join the three attackers: André Silva, Ferreirinha and Calleri. Coincidentally or not, the number 10 did not perform well in Guayaquil, receiving some criticism from the fans.
