Send the shoes with the laces already in place and fastened together;
Send the pairs of socks together;
Place objects from different categories in separate bags, such as: bedding, personal hygiene items, cleaning products and clothes.
“Not everyone has the opportunity to donate things in perfect condition, but the question is: is this item usable?”, highlights Milla. “We have to think about the dignity of those who will receive these donations. People have already lost everything and will still receive a torn rag, with a bad smell, sometimes with questionable stains. You have to have a good sense of what material we are sending.”
‘We rescue people with an inflatable mattress’
Milla also participates in rescuing residents in Porto Alegre. “The entire coastal area and some internal parts of the city are under water. The problem is not just water from the rivers invading the city, but the underground part is full. So water is rising through the drains”, he says. This is a risk for disease outbreaks, such as leptospirosis — a scenario that has already been warned by the SBI (Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases).
