Among the units in the Union, the people of Santa Catarina were among those that registered the least attempts at fraud in online purchases in 2023, according to data from ClearSale, a data intelligence and anti-fraud solutions company.
The survey was based on more than 38 million requests between January 1st and December 31st, 2023.
The states with the most requests made in the South were Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná, which were also ahead in the number of coup attempts and the average ticket for attempts, which was R$1,065.
Santa Catarina had 10.1 million requests and an average ticket of R$1,017.95. The fraud rate was 0.8% in SC, against 1.4%; the only state with a lower fraud rate was Rio Grande do Sul, with 0.7%.
According to the research, the payment method with the highest number of requests was credit cards (33.7 million), followed by bank slips, with 1.2 million transactions.
The voucher was the payment method with the highest percentage of scam attempts (1.3%), while financing had the highest average ticket for fraudulent transactions in the region, with more than R$2,200 per attempted fraudulent action.
According to the Fraud Map, scammers in the southern region of the country operate mainly through new registrations with data leaks and logistical fraud. The categories that suffered the most scam attempts were cell phones (2.5%); telecom (1.3%) and beauty (1.0%).
To survey the Fraud Map, ClearSale only considered payments via credit card in the e-commerce sector. All transactions that were classified as suspicious or confirmed were considered fraud attempts.
