The Senate approved this Tuesday a draft legislative decree that recognizes the state of calamity in Rio Grande do Sul due to heavy rains that left at least 95 people dead, paving the way for the sending of federal resources to the State without this affecting the fiscal target. government or imply non-compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Law.

In another response to the tragedy in the State, the Senate installed this Tuesday a temporary external commission to monitor activities to combat the calamity in RS.

The federal government, in turn, is expected to announce the suspension of payments on Rio Grande do Sul’s debt to the Union until December 31, a government source told Reuters on Tuesday, which could result in savings of 3 .5 billion reais for the State.

Rescue teams continued their search this Tuesday for people who remain isolated due to the devastating floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul, with at least 95 dead and 131 missing, while survivors face shortages of food and basic supplies.

According to the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, 401 of 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul were affected by climate events, with more than 159 thousand people displaced, 48 thousand of them in shelters.
